A native of France, Sylvie Rowand used to live in the Washington DC area where she was a commercial real estate executive. In 2006, she and her husband accomplished their long-awaited dream of moving to Rappahannock County where they honeymooned almost 20 years ago.
Sylvie has been cooking since she was 9, and likes to say that she gardens because she likes to eat. But really, she does like to grow plants! She established a large kitchen garden over the last couple of years, planted with annual & perennial vegetable - including some rather unusual ones-, small fruits, many herbs, edible flowers and cutting flowers. She grows and harvests all year long, thanks to a careful selection of crops, and the help of cold frames, small hoophouses and a greenhouse. Almost all the vegetable are started from seeds, and some of the garden harvest is dried, canned, jammed and otherwise preserved for later use.
